Hardenberg Burghotel – Travelling Back in Time
A jewel of hospitality and history is hidden amidst the picturesque landscape of Lower Saxony: the Relais & Châteaux Hardenberg Burghotel. An adventure that grows in charm and exclusivity with every moment.

The Arrival
The journey began with a short flight from Zurich to Hanover, followed by a scenic train journey through the idyllic landscapes of Lower Saxony. The Hardenberg Burghotel is just a short hop away from the railway station, which made the journey a comfortable and pleasant experience.

The Hotel
As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by the imposing silhouette of Hardenberg Castle, which towers above the hotel. The complex is surrounded by lovingly tended gardens that radiate tranquillity and grandeur. The interior of the hotel skilfully reflects the mixture of modern luxury and historical flair, with each room designed with sophistication. I particularly liked the coffee corner with fireplace, right next to the lobby.

Dinner at Restaurant Novalis
The evening was heralded in culinary terms when I entered the hotel’s own restaurant, Novalis. Here, my taste buds were treated to an exquisite selection of regional specialities and international delicacies. The presentation of the dishes and the carefully selected wines emphasised the high quality that is a matter of course at the Hardenberg Burghotel. One thing was certain: I left the restaurant full that evening.

Hardenberg Castle Ruins
A particular highlight of my stay was the trip to the Hardenberg castle ruins, which are just a few minutes’ walk from the hotel. A key is required to enter the ruins, which can be collected from the hotel lobby. When I used it to open the iron gate to the ruins, I was able to take in the atmosphere of history at my leisure. Who can say they once had a castle all to themselves?

The Breakfast
A breakfast fit for a king awaited me the next morning. The buffet offered a rich selection of fresh fruit, homemade pastries and regional delicacies. Various egg dishes were also on the menu. The quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail set the perfect start to the day.

Burgen Spa
My stay at the Hardenberg Burghotel would not have been complete without the opportunity to relax at the Burg Spa. The sauna and steam bath offered a retreat of relaxation, embedded in the historical backdrop of the estate. After a sweat-inducing sauna session, I enjoyed cooling off on the terrace with an unobstructed view of the castle ruins.
Fazit
The Relais & Châteaux Hardenberg Burghotel enchanted me not only with its historical splendour, but also with a service that meets the highest standards. This retreat combines luxury, cuisine and history to create an unforgettable overall experience that I will remember for a long time to come.
