A Weekend Escape to Lana: Alpine Calm, Culinary Joy & Cultural Gems
Nestled between sun-kissed vineyards and mountain peaks, Lana in South Tyrol offered me an extended weekend that was equal parts discovery, indulgence, and slow living. What makes Lana so unique is how effortlessly it brings together contrasts: rustic charm and modern flair, high-end cuisine and earthy farm life, alpine nature and Mediterranean ease.
In this blog post, I’ll walk you through my favourite experiences – from scenic hikes to intimate meals and artful stops – all of which made this trip a memorable one.
Nature Moments: Lana’s Calm Side Trails
Into the Silence: Hike to Vigiljoch
Floating gently above Lana, the journey to Vigiljoch starts with a cable car, followed by a single-seater chairlift ride that feels like stepping back in time. At the top, we entered a world without cars – only forest paths, wildflowers, and panoramic views across the Adige Valley.

We followed a peaceful circular trail that winds through larch forests and past open alpine meadows. One of the most magical moments of our trip happened here: as we rounded a bend near a clearing, we suddenly came across a group of wild horses grazing freely in the open landscape. They moved calmly through the grass, completely unfazed by us, embodying the quiet freedom of this high plateau.

Our hike ended with lunch at Gasthof Seespitz, perched beside a small mountain lake. We enjoyed handmade dumplings with sage butter and fresh salads, all while taking in the wide-open view and the crisp alpine air. Simple, honest food in a setting that makes everything taste just a little better.

Waterside Wanderings: The Marlinger Waalweg
Winding through apple groves and forested slopes, the Marlinger Waalweg became one of my favorite walks of the trip. It’s a trail that follows an old irrigation channel, and the constant murmur of water made for a meditative backdrop.
At the trail’s end, we landed at Haidenhof, a panoramic farm inn overlooking Merano. Their sun terrace served up hearty local fare and an unforgettable view of Castle Lebenberg – the perfect reward for an easy afternoon hike.

Where Art Meets Wine: The Kränzelhof Gardens
In nearby Tscherms, Kränzelhof surprised me with a delightful mix of art, gardens, and wine. The estate’s seven themed gardens blend sculpture, nature, and surprise. After exploring winding paths and hidden installations, we wrapped up with a relaxed wine tasting in the courtyard – a true sensory highlight of the trip.

Tee Time with a View: Golfing at Golfclub Lana
While most of our weekend was spent hiking, indulging, and relaxing, one unexpected highlight was our spontaneous round at Golfclub Lana. Just a short drive from the town center, the 9-hole course is beautifully nestled at the foot of the Brandis castle ruins, framed by apple orchards and vineyards.
The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming – ideal for both casual players and those looking to squeeze in a scenic round while traveling. The layout is technically interesting without being overly challenging, making it enjoyable for golfers of all levels.

Tasting Lana: Culinary Highlights
Elegant Yet Grounded: Dinner at Stadele
If I had to choose one meal that captured the spirit of Lana, it would be our evening at Stadele. With its leafy garden terrace, the setting alone was enchanting. The menu? A refined take on South Tyrolean classics – regional, seasonal, and beautifully plated. I especially appreciated how the team paired warm hospitality with creative culinary craftsmanship.

Bold and Urban: Diversus
Right next to our accommodation, Diversus impressed with its cool interior and focused, flavor-driven menu. The dishes were surprising in the best way – bold flavor pairings, fresh ingredients, and an emphasis on quality over quantity. Their cocktail selection is top-tier, making this spot perfect for both dinner and a stylish nightcap.

A Quiet Culinary Gem: RH Reichhalter 1477
Dining at RH Reichhalter 1477 felt like stepping into a carefully curated time capsule. Housed in a historic building in central Lana, the minimalist décor contrasts beautifully with the warmth of the food. Everything felt thoughtful – from the crisp white wines to the seasonal plates served with understated elegance.

Morning Rituals: Mein Beck & Runstnerhof
Our days began with a stop at Mein Beck, where the smell of fresh bread and the friendly bustle set the tone. Their pistachio croissant was a revelation – not overly sweet, but buttery and aromatic.

On Sunday, we made our way to Rustnerhof for a farm-style brunch. Surrounded by apple trees and free-roaming chickens, we feasted on fresh eggs, homemade yogurt, and seasonal jams. It’s an experience that felt genuinely grounded – ideal for families or anyone craving a taste of real South Tyrolean life.

Where We Stayed: Goldfinger Suites
For accommodation, we chose Goldfinger Suites, and it turned out to be a perfect base. Located centrally in Lana yet tucked away enough to ensure peace and quiet, the suites offered tasteful design with thoughtful amenities – a sleek kitchen, stylish interiors, and plenty of space to unwind.

After long hikes or dinner outings, we often ended the day by the private pool area – a serene spot to cool off or sip a glass of wine under the stars.

Final Thoughts: Lana, You Got Under My Skin
What makes Lana so memorable is not one single thing, but the balance it strikes. It’s where nature feels close, where food tells a story, and where time slows down just enough for you to notice the little things. Whether you come to hike, relax, or simply reset – Lana has a way of staying with you.
Until next time, South Tyrol. You were wonderful.
