Christmas Shopping in Baden-Württemberg
Metzingen – Shopping in the Outletcity
Our journey began in Metzingen, the home of the world-famous Outletcity Metzingen. The city has a fascinating history closely tied to the fashion industry: As early as the 19th century, Metzingen was known for its textile industry. The foundation for the Outletcity was laid by Hugo Boss, which was founded here and chose Metzingen as the location for its factory outlet. Today, the Outletcity is a shopping mecca for enthusiasts from around the world, featuring over 150 premium and luxury brands. With its perfect mix of modern stores, architectural highlights, and a festive atmosphere, our tour of the Outletcity became a truly unique experience.

VIP-Shopping Pass
A special highlight of our stay was the VIP Shopping Pass, which we were able to activate in the Outletcity Metzingen app to benefit from additional offers and discounts. You too can activate your VIP Shopping Pass with the code TCA24 and benefit from a further 10% discount on over 100 participating brands directly in the stores on site as well as an additional 15% discount in the online shop. This exclusive offer is valid until 31 December 2024. For us, it was a great way to benefit even more from the already reduced prices at Outletcity – a must for bargain hunters and Christmas shoppers alike!

Our Stay at the Moxy Hotel
For our stay in Metzingen, we chose the stylish Moxy Hotel, which is perfect for a shopping weekend. The hotel impresses with its relaxed, modern atmosphere and a design that appeals to young and young-at-heart travellers. The bar and open-plan communal areas invite you to feel at home. Particularly practical: the hotel is located in the centre of the Outletcity, making it the ideal accommodation for shopping enthusiasts. After an eventful day in the stores, we were able to relax in the Moxy’s cosy lounge area and round off the evening.

Freiburg – A City Full of Christmas Magic
On Friday, we continued to Freiburg im Breisgau, where the Christmas atmosphere immediately captivated us. After checking into the charming Boutique Hotel Am Stadtgarten, we started with a guided city tour through the festively decorated streets. From the historic Gerberau to the Advent Market Feierling, we gained insights into the city’s unique lifestyle shops and rich Christmas traditions.

A Highlight: The Christmas Market
The Christmas market in Freiburg was an absolute highlight. Between the arts and crafts stalls, the smell of mulled wine and the twinkling lights, we found one or two Christmas presents for friends and family. We enjoyed mulled wine and festive specialities before having a cosy dinner at the Lichtblick restaurant.

Breuninger – Luxury and Indulgence in Freiburg
A special highlight in Freiburg was our visit to Breuninger, one of Germany’s most renowned destinations for fashion, beauty, and lifestyle. After a warm welcome by Managing Director David Lehr, we were given an exclusive tour of the store, where we not only admired the impressive architecture and variety of brands but also learned about the exceptional Personal Shopping Service. Mr. Lehr explained in detail how the service is tailored to customers’ individual needs: there’s an option to book a 30-minute session for quick, focused advice or a 90-minute session, ideal for more comprehensive shopping needs. The stylists provide expert fashion tips and insider knowledge, ensuring a perfectly curated shopping experience. While we didn’t use the service on this visit, the concept was highly impressive and showcased why Breuninger is renowned for its outstanding customer care. We wrapped up the morning with a glass of mulled wine at the rooftop bar, enjoying the stunning views over Freiburg.

Münster Market – Sustainability and Delight in the Heart of Freiburg
A visit to the Freiburger Münster Market was an absolute must. This historic market, held around the stunning Freiburg Minster, is one of Germany’s oldest and most charming markets. Here, we discovered a wide range of fresh regional products, handcrafted items, and seasonal delicacies. We were particularly impressed by the sustainable concepts embraced at the market, such as the many plastic-free packaging options. The vibrant atmosphere, combined with Baden’s joyful spirit, made our visit a truly memorable experience.

Schlossberg – Nature and Relaxation Above the City
After the bustle of the Münster Market, a trip to the Schlossberg was the perfect contrast. Just a few minutes from the city center, this green retreat offered us breathtaking views of Freiburg, the Dreisam Valley, and even as far as the Vosges Mountains. Thanks to the Schlossberg Railway, we effortlessly reached the viewpoint, where we could immerse ourselves in the tranquility of the Black Forest nature. For a short break, the charming Café Marcel was an inviting spot with its sweet treats and warm beverages. The Schlossberg was the ideal conclusion to our Freiburg program – a place that perfectly balances urban life and nature.

Conclusion: Festive Magic in Baden-Württemberg
This trip allowed us to experience the Christmas spirit of Baden-Württemberg in all its facets. From exclusive shopping in Metzingen to the festive atmosphere of Freiburg, it was an unforgettable experience that brought us not only the best gift ideas but also the true magic of Christmas.
