An Instagramer’s City Guide to Stockholm
You’re planing a stay in Stockholm and you do not want to miss a photo hotspot? Then you are exactly right here. In this blog post I would like to present you the capital of Sweden from its most photogenic side.
About Stockholm
Stockholm extends over several districts which are known by name as Vasastan, Gamla Stan (Old Town), Djurgarden, Södermalm, Kungsholmen, Norrmalm (City) and Östermalm. Many of the districts are separated by water, and sometimes the fastest way from one district to another is across the water. So do not hesitate to jump on a boat instead of waiting for the bus.
Must See Places
Like any major city, Stockholm has many attractions. In this post I will not be able to cover all but some “must see” places I would like to mention.
The Royal Palace
The royal palace is located in the middle of Stockholm and is admirable from several angles. The palace can be seen from the water, as well as from the mainland. The access road on the north side is very little traffic, so this road is perfect for a souvenir shot.

The Old Town
The old town or “Gamla Stan”, as the Swedes call it, with its narrow streets and lanes is perfect for strolling. Probably the most photographed house façade in Sweden is located on Stortorget. With its colorful walls, it provides the perfect background for your photos.

The Museums
Stockholm offers a great variety of museums. Many of the museums are in beautiful buildings, such as the National Museum.

Another highly recommended museum is the Vasa Museum, which showcases the sunken Vasa ship from 1628 in admirable condition.

Stockholm Underground
Stockholm has much to offer, not only on the surface but also in the underground. At numerous subway stations there are rising artworks from the ground. Owned a day pass, it is worth to drive to the following stations.
Mörby Centrum
In Mörby Centrum there are rainbow paintings on the raw stone.

Solna Centrum
Just outside the center is the subway station Solna Centrum.

Other interesting stations are: T-Centralen and Radhuset.
Drottningholm Castel
The Drottningholm Palace is located about 10 km outside of Stockholm, but is absolutely worth a visit. If you have enough time, I recommend the journey by boat. The ships depart from Klara Mälarstrand.

The imposing castle includes an even more imposing castle park, which stretches over several hectares.

Best Way to explore Stockholm
During my entire stay, I owned a Stockholm Pass. The passes are available online at https://www.stockholmpass.com/ or can be obtained from the Stockholm Visitor Center. With the Stockholm Pass I had free admission to several museums. The visit to Drottningholm Castle and the boat trip there were also included.
