Ein Spaziergang durch die kleinen Strassen, vorbei an Boutiquen, alten Backsteinhäusern und gemütlichen Pubs, liess uns die Eleganz und Gelassenheit dieser Region spüren. Hier scheint das Leben etwas langsamer und bewusster zu verlaufen – ein idealer Einstieg in unsere Reise.
Our first stop took us to Henley-on-Thames, a charming town that feels like it has stepped straight out of an English storybook. A stroll through the narrow streets, past boutiques, old brick houses, and cozy pubs, gave us a sense of the elegance and serenity of this region. Life here seems to move at a gentler, more deliberate pace – the perfect beginning to our journey.
Cliveden House – Elegance on the Hills
Ein Höhepunkt der Reise war unser Besuch im berühmten Cliveden House. Majestätisch thront es über der Themse, umgeben von prachtvollen Gärten. Hier spürt man die Geschichten vergangener Zeiten, aber auch den zeitlosen Luxus, den nur solche Orte ausstrahlen. Zwischen Spaziergängen im Park und Momenten des Staunens über die Architektur fühlten wir uns fast wie Gäste einer anderen Epoche.
A true highlight of the journey was our visit to the renowned Cliveden House. Majestically perched above the Thames and surrounded by magnificent gardens, it radiates the stories of past centuries along with a timeless sense of luxury. Between strolls through the grounds and moments spent admiring its architecture, we felt almost like guests from another era.
Durch reinen Zufall erlebten wir an diesem Tag noch ein besonderes Extra: Auf dem Gelände fand eine exklusive Autoauktion statt. Zwischen glänzenden Karosserien und dem Murmeln von Geboten tauchten wir ein in eine ganz eigene Welt, in der sich Eleganz, Sammlerleidenschaft und britischer Lifestyle auf faszinierende Weise vereinten. Es war, als würde Cliveden House für einen Moment nicht nur seine Vergangenheit, sondern auch seine Gegenwart in voller Pracht inszenieren.
By pure coincidence, we witnessed something extraordinary that day: an exclusive car auction taking place on the estate. Surrounded by gleaming bodywork and the hum of bids, we stepped into a world where elegance, collector’s passion, and British lifestyle blended in a fascinating way. For a moment, Cliveden House showcased not only its past but also its present in all its grandeur.
Windsor Castle – A Royal Encounter
Kaum ein Ort verbindet Geschichte und Gegenwart so eindrucksvoll wie Windsor Castle. Der Anblick der gewaltigen Mauern, die Flagge im Wind, die Details der prunkvollen Räume – all das hat uns tief beeindruckt. Es ist ein Platz, an dem man die Kontinuität britischer Tradition beinahe körperlich spüren kann.
Few places combine history and modernity as powerfully as Windsor Castle. The sight of the imposing walls, the flag fluttering in the wind, the intricate details of the grand halls – all of it left a lasting impression on us. It is a place where one can almost physically feel the continuity of British tradition.
Besonders unvergesslich war jedoch unser eigener Anlegeplatz: Wir ergatterten einen der schönsten Liegeplätze direkt am Ufer, mit Blick auf das Windsor Castle im Hintergrund. Dort grillten wir am Abend, liessen den Duft von frisch Gegrilltem mit der Abendluft verschmelzen und genossen den Sonnenuntergang – ein royales Panorama, das wir ganz für uns hatten.
Yet what made the experience truly unforgettable was our mooring spot: we managed to secure one of the most beautiful berths right by the riverbank, with Windsor Castle rising majestically in the background. That evening we set up the grill, let the aroma of dinner mingle with the evening air, and enjoyed the sunset – a royal panorama that felt entirely our own.
Marlow – Breakfast on the Boat
Ein besonders schöner Moment war unser Frühstück in Marlow – nicht in einem Café, sondern direkt auf dem Boot. Während die Morgensonne das Wasser in goldenes Licht tauchte und die Vögel ihr Konzert hielten, genossen wir Kaffee, Toast und frische Früchte. Es war einer dieser Augenblicke, in denen alles zur Ruhe kommt und man spürt, wie wenig es manchmal braucht, um vollkommen glücklich zu sein.
One particularly beautiful moment was our breakfast in Marlow – not in a café, but right on the boat. As the morning sun bathed the water in golden light and birds provided their concert, we enjoyed coffee, toast, and fresh fruit. It was one of those moments when everything slows down, and you realize how little it takes to feel completely content.
Sun, Swimming, and Serenity
Zwischen all den kulturellen Höhepunkten haben wir uns auch dem einfachen Vergnügen hingegeben: Sonne tanken und schwimmen. Auf dem Deck zu liegen, das Gesicht in die Sonne zu halten, ins kühle Wasser zu springen und danach wieder trocknen zu lassen – diese Momente der Leichtigkeit haben die Reise wunderbar ergänzt. Oft nahmen wir uns dazu ein Buch zur Hand und lasen auf dem Sonnendeck, während das Boot sanft im Wasser schaukelte. Es war eine beinahe meditative Ruhe, die nur vom Plätschern der Wellen begleitet wurde.
Amidst all the cultural highlights, we also indulged in simpler pleasures: sunbathing and swimming. Lying on the deck, feeling the sun on our faces, diving into the cool water, and drying off afterward – these carefree moments perfectly complemented the journey. Often, we would take a book in hand and read on the sundeck while the boat gently rocked on the water. It was a near-meditative calm, broken only by the soft lapping of the waves.
A Journey to Remember
Sieben Tage auf der Themse haben uns gezeigt, wie reich eine Reise sein kann, wenn man sich dem Fluss hingibt. The Liberty war unser treuer Begleiter, und mit ihr haben wir nicht nur Orte entdeckt, sondern auch eine neue Form des Reisens – entschleunigt, stilvoll und voller kleiner Augenblicke, die in Erinnerung bleiben. Dank Le Boat wurde aus einem Urlaub auf dem Wasser ein Erlebnis, das weit über das Gewohnte hinausging: eine Einladung, den Luxus der Langsamkeit zu geniessen und die Zeit wieder bewusst wahrzunehmen.
Seven days on the Thames showed us how fulfilling a journey can be when you surrender to the river. The Liberty was our faithful companion, and with it we discovered not only places but also a new way of traveling – unhurried, stylish, and filled with small moments that will remain with us.
